The veins seem to be getting worse even though I am fit and very physically active. My legs ache and feel hot and swollen at the end of a long day. Answer: The symptoms you describe certainly sound serious and I believe you need to have your varicose veins thoroughly evaluated. You are in danger of developing serious skin changes and an ulcer on your left leg if the cause of your vein problem is not treated. More than 30% of women do suffer from varicose veins and these problems commonly develop during pregnancy. If this problem is not corrected the skin and tissue of the lower leg become inflamed and the skin can actually break down and form an ulcer.
