Painless Filler finally arrived 2008-12-08
Patient Marie:
Hello Dr. Crippen, I am considering Juvederm to reduce facial lines and perhaps even increasing
the fullness of my lips but I am worried that this procedure will hurt. What would you recommend?
Dr. Crippen responds:
Hello Marie, and thank-you for your excellent question. Just a little background information for you
on the topic of fillers.
Juvederm is a totally synthetic, non-animal based, hyaluronic acid product that is
used for augmenting skin tissue in many different areas. No allergy testing is required to use this product
and it has been used internationally on tens of thousands of patients since 2001. It is primarily used to fill
deep lines and folds of the skin in addition to adding fullness to lips/cheeks and various other areas of the face.
There is some discomfort when injecting this product, but this is easily remedied through a variety of
techniques and anesthetic products.
Just released is the new Juvederm filler that has the anesthetic lidocaine incorporated into its matrix,
to make the injection process less painful and easier to accomplish. I highly recommend this exciting
new formulation with lidocaine as you will experience little to no discomfort with the injection. Just like many
of our other patients who are now experiencing this first-hand. Having treated literally thousands of patients with
injectable products, Juvederm is by far the best product on the market and, has the highest safety profile that
I have seen to date.
Juvederm is a long-lasting product that in many patients will last up to 12 months without re-treatment.
The advantage of Juvederm fillers for deep lines, creases, and fullness is that you will see immediate results in the clinic.
You should avoid taking blood thinners and/or aspirin one week before treatment, as these medications
can contribute to bruising after the injection procedure. A consultation with your family physician specialist
prior to discontinuing any medicine is always advisable as your specific medical condition(s) may preclude
treatment otherwise.
Additionally, I assess and inject all of my patients. Aesthetic medicine is a complex mix of art and science,
you shouldn't take any chances with your health and well-being.
