Questions & Answers
How is the StarPulse procedure done?
Treatment involves placing a small hand piece or scanner device against the surface of the skin and activating the laser. Because of the brightness of the light, you will be asked to wear eye protection. The duration of the procedure varies depending on the type of lesion being treated, but in all cases you can expect to be home the same day.
Does a StarPulse treatment hurt?
StarPulse is known as a “gentle laser”. Patients feel virtually nothing up to a sensation of a hot pinprick for a fraction of a second. It is so gentle that local anesthesia is seldom necessary.
How does StarPulse work?
StarPulse is a revolutionary technology that treats vessels with a series of laser light pulses. These pulses are absorbed into blood cells, causing the blood to heat and coagulate. This leaves the blood vessel walls unsupported, causing them to collapse. Then, after the treatment during the healing process, these vessels dissolve within the body. With the vessels gone, the treated area returns to the natural colour of your skin.
What should I expect after the treatment?
You will experience a slight redness in the treated area, which will go away within a few days. Side effects are uncommon and usually minimal. Your physician will give you full instructions for skin care after treatment. It is recommended that sunscreens be used, especially to help avoid getting these lesions in the future.
